How To Settle Your Police Fines

Being the rebel that I am (ha!) with my frequent run-ins with the law, I recently settled 1 really old (2005) and another not so old police 'kompaun'. There were rumours that the runners no longer help you settle fines on your behalf for a fee and that grovelling for mercy won't get your fine amount reduced. Well as of last week, I can put those rumours to rest. At the PJ traffic office anyway.

I think some runners are still in operation, cuz there was a guy there who seemed to have a fair knowledge of what counter does what. I think he just wanted to get me off the line so he can move up, so I politely told him I'm on the right queue.

So what you do is, you go to the 2nd floor of the main building. The compound settlement office is easy to find. There are 2 counters, the payment counter and the 'semakan' counter. You have to visit the latter first and get your fines checked. This is where you pop the question "tuan (title is optional apparently), ada diskaun ar?". The counter cop will hand you a slip of paper and point to a piece of paper on the wall marked 'contoh'. It's a 'surat rayu' for the penitent public to copy verbatim. Ok, not so 'amanah' but a little bit 'bersih' and definately 'cekap'. I'm not sure if they want it in handwriting but I have the letter contents available below.

After you get that done, go on to the payment counter and if the electricity doesn't go off like it did when I went to pay, hand over the fine(s), the letter and the cash.
