Returners from Outer Space (Part 2)

Months later, the earth had settled. It was quiet down below as we had not received radio contact from anyone on earth. We were getting along fine aboard the spaceship. It ran like a well-oiled machine. Nobody seemed to miss home. Which was strange to say the least. The ship was our home now.

My military mate however, called me privately to speak about a secret mission he was about to undertake and he wanted me to accompany him. "Right!" I said, unquestioningly. So down we went shipped back to earth. It was night and the sky was a dark navy blue filled with bright yellow stars like a Picasso painting. We were on a jeep that took us down a quiet hillside road that dipped so steep you couldn't see the road in front of you, only the hills beyond. The night was cool and we kept on driving till we came to a settlement along the road.

The settlement was large, almost a small town. There were people living there! We caught our first glimpse of the survivors on earth. They were normal and healthy except for a little scaring on their faces. They were dressed in what I'd like to describe as 'village-wear'. They were dancing and they invited us to join them. The unexplained scars on their faces unnerved me somewhat. My mate hadn't told me what the military's interest on earth was either. Slowly I was beginning to think this was a bad idea and that I should've stayed on the ship.

Then I woke up and thought "man, that would've been a cool zombie movie". The End.
