Hasbro Warehouse Sale aka The Wretched Hive of Scum & Villany

Last week Adrian alerted me about the Hasbro warehouse sale. Hasbro is the manufacturer of Transformers and Star Wars toys (as well as many other popular brands) and they seem to have a sale every year at Shah Alam.

I had to go after work last Saturday. They had 2 shifts, one in the morning and another in the afternoon at 2pm. Just like last year, there were hoarders who had large boxes in the middle of the area, about the size of a narrow hall, under makeshift tents. People clung hard on to tables where staff were busy handing out toys. Transformers and Star Wars being the most popular lines as usual. It was rowdy and I question the wisdom of parents bringing their kids there. I suppose they hoped they would get dibs if they bring kids in tow. Many people went there in teams and the taller ones could raise their hands above the din to reach for stuff. Then they dropped their catch into the boxes guarded by another team mate. Idiots.

I didn't want to be in the middle of the scrum so I hung out in the edges just looking at things people didn't want and also what was actually on sale. Especially the Transformers Animated toys. I wanted to see what the unpopular toys were. You know, I just care allot about that toy line even now that it's over. I didn't really mind not buying anything at some point. I was just merely there to watch the human spectacle.

I wanted to get some photos but suddenly, a large box was opened near me and the staff were handing out Animated Leader class figures. These are the large Transformers toys that had electronics. I managed to hold on to a Bulkhead figure and was just curious to see what they were going for when two long spindly limbs grabbed it from my left and started tugging. I held on to it tight and before I knew what happened I yelled "Sorry!" and tugged it hard! IT WAS MINE! >:)

It went for RM120, about RM70 less than retail. I already bought one last year but I was a bit embarrassed by the tussle, so I didn't really want to just drop it. So I bought it instead. I hung around trying to see if I could trade it. One of the hoarders had an Animated Voyager Megatron but he didn't want it cuz he already had 2 or 3 Bulkheads. Idiot.

Today Toys R Us at Bandar Utama started their sale and their prices were pretty much like the Hasbro Warehouse Sale. Boy do I feel stupid. And they had more stuff too! So I dug deep and got Animated Voyager Megatron (the last on the shelf), Animated Atomic Lugnut and TRU Exclusive Universe Darkwind. I've been watching an old Japanese Transformer cartoon called Masterforce since Animated was canned and Darkwind is a bit of a fan favourite.
