Genesis Climber Mospeada is one of the more memorable cartoon series I used to love as a child. The series featured transformable motorcycles that became armour for some serious alien arse kicking! They also had transformable fighter planes that had a humanoid mode and a hybrid 'gerwalk' mode much like its more popular cousin Macross.
To me the appeal of the series was more than just the giant transforming robots and the cool bikes. The protagonists of the show were freedom fighters on a pilgrimage to destroy an occupying alien force on earth. An adventurous nomadic lifestyle, living off the land in an almost post-apocalyptic world. With giant killer alien mechas. *Sigh*.
So I walk into a toy store at the Curve after lunch on Sunday and there they were. 2 boxes, one with Stick and the other with Ray and their Ride Armours. My brother used to have the larger old model with Stick made by a company called Gakken. Those are legendary now. These days, 3 companies have been given the rights to produce new Ride Armours, Toynami, CM and Mega House. Apparently a 4th company, Beagle is making their own too. Anyway, these were the Mega House ones which were reportedly being brought in a few weeks ago. However, I think several licensing issues put that to a halt as Mega House do not have rights to distribute outside Japan. It seems that Toynami is distributing Mega House's Mospeada offerings. Kinda weird considering that Toynami is making their own ones to rival Mega House's.
To cut the long story short, I went insane and bought both for RM470. Here's a cool video review of the toys. Actually, they're not really toys, a kid could break these.
